Who's Afraid of Democracy
Everyone seems to be reading Bryan Caplan’s The Myth of the Rational Voter. And now Jonah Goldberg chimes in. I’m really amazed by the legs this book seems to have, but people tend to like books that dress up their biases in fancy stastistics, so I suppose i shouldn’t be surprised. Caplan is very wrong, his ideas are dangerous, but he’s not stupid and the book is well put together if not exactly well-argued. But giving this book to Jonah Goldberg is like handing grenade to a baby.
That said, I kind of hope this becomes a mainstream Republican idea: you have to pass a test before you can vote. I seem to remember a few states even implementing this suggestion a while back. I wonder why they stopped?
