The American cell phone industry is an outrage. Imagine if your home phone was “locked.” Actually, that’s how it once was. Back in the day, the major carriers wouldn’t allow you to hook up anything to a phone that used their network. That meant no answering machines, no modems. They finally relented and the era of telecommunications followed. We’re back at square one with locked cell phones.

The iPhone doesn’t look it will change that.
